My husband and I were driving in the French countryside when I saw this intriguing sign for a small local restaurant. “Buffet à volanté“…hmm, an all-you-can-eat buffet. “Pizza à emporter“/pizza to-go or takeaway. But “Américain à emporter“?! The restaurant was closed and I doubt I will ever return to this out of the way village, so I must be content to live in ignorance. This item on the menu remains veiled in mystery.
